Well, a new logo at least.

Our neighbour, Milly is a design student at the local University, she wants to rebrand Flowers on the Corner as part of an assignment. Having told us that she loves our shop for various flattering reasons but unfortunately, you hardly notice it if you don’t know it’s there. And we know it’s true, customers often ask how long we have been here and are baffled when we answer, 5 years!

So, we’ll be doing a floral photo shoot this week, with chopping boards, sharp knives and cooking pots… Sounds strange I know but it’ll all become clear soon enough.

Happy New Year, everyone!

I’m not even joking, it’s this cold in the shop today. You know how we have to keep the door wide open, to tempt more customers in and keep the flowers fresh? Well, this also results in us risking our good health and reputation in the realms of style and sanity.

I just tried to answer the phone and could barely locate my ears under all this wool…

I may need to re-wrap my cocoon.

A glass vase snapped in my hand as I lifted it up on to a shelf. It wasn’t pretty but it happened so fast it didn’t hurt too much. I can assure you we do have a first aid kit under the counter but I invented this ‘hair bobble and cosmetic pad’ combo, which allowed me to continue working, albeit one handed.

My wounds are healing nicely now, Aloe Vera to the rescue!

Something we try to avoid here at Flowers on the Corner is...

Something we try to avoid here at Flowers on the Corner is gilding the Lily. However, occasionally we do allow some sprayed items through the door, although it’s extremely rare.

This is a some splattered eucalyptus. I’m not usually a fan of anything natural being made to look unnatural but this really wowed me. I may even give it a go myself.

About this time of year, I have to don my full Flowers on the...

About this time of year, I have to don my full Flowers on the Corner regalia as a matter of necessity. We’re only a small shop with no room for a fancy refrigerator to store the flowers in. Instead we just keep the door wide open all year round, come rain or shine. In Winter it gets freezing cold, my hands get so numb I can hardly even tie a knot.

This is a representation of what I have to wear to keep warm, survival is key.

NB I don’t actually own any of these clothes.

I thought they were spring flowers, but there you go…

I thought they were spring flowers, but there you go…

We supply a few local businesses with designs for their...

We supply a few local businesses with designs for their reception desks on a weekly basis. I’m going to make it my mission to get a few more of these contracts this week. It’s no good when you go to a nice restaurant and the flowers on the maitre d’s counter are forecourt flowers in an over-sized vase or even worse, plastic.

When you arrive somewhere and flowers are the first thing you see, it brings a smile to your face. They are a natural wonder, their formations vary from the sublime to the ridiculous and some scented varieties are intoxicating, in a good way.

Brighten up your work place with bespoke designs from Flowers on the Corner, prices start at £15 per week.

My folks have been on holiday this past 2 weeks, visiting my...

My folks have been on holiday this past 2 weeks, visiting my brother’s family in North Carolina, he has 8 kids now! They try to cross the Atlantic a couple of times a year so the kids don’t grow up without knowing their English Grandy and Gramps.

This is a picture of my Mum visiting the grave of an old friend who came to Britain many years ago as a missionary. See how she can turn a bunch of Star-gazers and a wrap of Carnations into a perfect tribute? Even the old can she put them in looks great. If this has inspired you to create a similar tribute for a lost loved one, don’t forget to weigh that tin down with some heavy pebbles.

Love you Mum, come back soon, I’m going a bit doolally with loneliness here.

October must be a quiet time for florists, I’ve a shop...

October must be a quiet time for florists, I’ve a shop full of flowers and no-one to sell them to. Such a shame. We’ve got road works outside our shop and the promise of a new supermarket at the end of the street. It’ll include a florist I believe, I’m sure you can hear me quaking in my boots. Forecourt flowers are to floristry what McDonalds is to fine dining. Everybody knows the difference, right?

The sun returned last week for a final farewell and we all felt...

The sun returned last week for a final farewell and we all felt her warmth on our backs once more, which was wonderful because this week the temperature plummeted and somebody told me that next week it’s going to snow…

Autumnal Bouquets are the order of the day!

Autumnal Bouquets are the order of the day!

Here I’m making 3 pastel coloured table centre-pieces for...

Here I’m making 3 pastel coloured table centre-pieces for a birthday lunch some kind fella is throwing for his Mum.

I’m using that wet foam again; it holds the flowers perfectly in place and feeds them much needed water for days to come. And I’ve secured it to the dish with pot tape, not certain why it’s called that but it’s from the duct tape family for sure.

Next I have to green up! The key to making this look good is in the variety of foliage I use, ivy, ruscus, eucalyptus etc. The different forms keep it looking interesting even before the flowers go in.

Finally, I can add the flowers. The customer asked for pastel shades so I’m sticking anything in that’s along those lines, sweet peas, freesias, roses, nerines etc.

I think they look lovely.

One thing we get asked constantly here at Flowers on the Corner...

One thing we get asked constantly here at Flowers on the Corner is “Are those real?”. I can understand that if you don’t get to see a lot of flowers the mind can boggle over their origins but knowing we only deal in real, quality flowers, my mind boggles at how anyone can think otherwise. The fact is, the world is full of magical and bizarre looking blooms and we try to stock as many varieties as we can.

This is an Anthurium, they come in many colours and sizes and are a standard feature in our signature bouquets. Yes, they look a bit rude. No, I can’t tell you what my Dad calls them…

Today I turned a plank of green foam into a floral tribute fit...

Today I turned a plank of green foam into a floral tribute fit for a pilot. I’m sure I’m not the only person that thought green tea was green tea, end of story but I was pleased to discover it is way more interesting than that. I came away with 100g of loose Japanese Cherry Sencha, tea which maintains its naturally green colour whilst managing to smell and taste like bubblegum. The great thing being that we have an exceptional tea shop here in Wrexham town and one whose proprietor was kind enough to blend me a sample of a future ‘Flowers on the Corner Tea’.

Coming soon exclusively to Flowers on the Corner.

We had a new supplier visit us this week, another Dutch man and...

We had a new supplier visit us this week, another Dutch man and his van.
